Living in Delano

Let us introduce you to this delightful town that combines the charm of small-town living with all the perks of modern amenities. Located in Wright County, Delano is celebrated for its friendly atmosphere, excellent schools, low crime rates, and a range of activities that make it feel like a scene straight out of a Hallmark movie. If you’re dreaming of a cozy, community-oriented place to live, Delano might just be your perfect match!  

  • Population: With around 6,889 residents as of 2022, Delano is a growing community that’s becoming increasingly popular. 
  • Growth Rate: The town is experiencing a steady growth rate of 2.4%, reflecting its rising appeal. 
  • Size: Covering 14.77 square miles, Delano offers a spacious yet close-knit environment. 
  • County: Wright County   

Education:  
If top-notch education is high on your list, Delano won’t disappoint. The town is home to a range of educational institutions that cater to all ages. Delano High School is particularly noteworthy, ranking as the 37th best high school in Minnesota out of nearly 900 schools. With a graduation rate of 98% and around 814 students!  For those interested in private schooling, Delano has some excellent options too. Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and School offers education from preschool through eighth grade, while St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School also provides a high-quality education for preschool through eighth grade students.

Things to Do in Delano:  
Delano is all about community and fun. The town hosts a variety of events that bring people together:  

  • Fourth of July Celebration: Delano is known for hosting Minnesota’s oldest and largest Fourth of July celebration. Each year, over 30,000 visitors flock to the city for four days of festivities, including parades, live music, fireworks, and more. 
  • National Night Out: This annual event is a great way for neighbors to come together and enjoy a range of activities designed to promote community spirit and safety. 
  • The Ice Palace: Featuring one of the largest ice attractions in Minnesota with over 90,000 sq-ft of ice as well as delicious food vendors, sled hills, and gift shops. This season's dates have not been announced yet but usually runs from January-February. 

Parks and Recreation:
Delano’s parks are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike:  

  • River Front Park: Located near the town center, River Front Park is a lovely spot with picturesque views, plenty of benches, picnic tables, and a moving veteran memorial. It’s a great place for a peaceful walk or a relaxing afternoon. 
  • Barb King Inspirational Park: If you’re looking for more action, Barb King Inspirational Park has got you covered. With facilities including a baseball field, football field, soccer field, and an ice hockey rink, it’s a fantastic spot for sports lovers and families with kids.  

Restaurants:  
Delano features all your favorite fast-food places and restaurants but also includes many unique options. Here's a few that are definitely worthy of trying for your next family night out:

  • Brickside Grille and Tap has a cozy and rustic feel and not only features your favorite classics but introduces just as many twists on favorites as well. With menu items like crab-stuffed shrimp, duck wontons, brisket chili and Prosciutto & Peach flatbread, we recommend ordering family style for the best sampling experience.
  • The King House Restaurant & Baroffers everything from quality steaks and seafood to fresh home-made pastas. They specialize in dishes that are simple yet refined. Try a steak or one of the fresh pastas, but don't forget the dessert, there are 15 different options to choose from.
  • The Peppermint Twist Drive-In serves classic drive-in favorites from a large selection of appetizers to burgers to root beer floats and is open spring-early fall. There's even a Teddy Bear Park onsite for the kids to enjoy.
